What is RAP-adjusted LV CPO?

RAP-adjusted LV CPO replaces arterial pressure alone with the effective systemic pressure gradient, MAP − RAP. It can differ substantially from conventional CPO when right atrial pressure is elevated.

How is it calculated?

CO × (MAP − RAP) / 451

CO is cardiac output in L/min; MAP and mean RAP are pressures in mmHg. The output is watts. MAP must exceed RAP for this calculator’s supported forward-flow interpretation.

Result units: W.

Clinical interpretation

Lower RAP-adjusted power can reflect reduced flow, a smaller systemic pressure gradient, or both. Prognostic associations have been studied in HF and pulmonary hypertension, but there is no universal normal range or intervention threshold. The conventional-CPO 0.6 W reference should not be transferred to this calculation.

Clinical considerations

Verify RAP carefully: leveling, respiratory phase, and ventilation affect the subtracted pressure.

Do not mix conventional and RAP-adjusted CPO when following a trend or applying a study result. Record which definition was used.
