During residency
Using This Listening List for the Internal Medicine ITE
The Internal Medicine In-Training Examination covers much of the same core clinical knowledge that ultimately appears on the ABIM certification exam, so this listening list can be useful well before the end of residency.
Use the specialty sections above to target weaker areas from a previous score report or topics you encounter during training. Pair the podcasts and videos with an internal medicine question bank and active recall instead of relying on passive listening alone.
For example, if cardiology needs work, move through the cardiology listening section while completing cardiology questions. The same approach works for pulmonary medicine, infectious disease, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and the other core domains.
This creates a reusable ITE study resource during residency that can later become part of an ABIM board-review plan. You can also browse the full Resident Guides library for related study and training resources.
Add spaced repetition
Spaced repetition while I build the topic decks
I’m gradually building topic-specific Anki decks to accompany these modules. In the meantime, I’ve personally been using the Dorian Internal Medicine deck: after listening and answering questions, I search the relevant topic and unsuspend the cards I want to retain.
Dorian is a third-party deck, not my work or an official companion to this list. The topic decks above are labeled separately so you can choose the workflow that suits you.

Common questions
ABIM & Internal Medicine ITE Listening FAQ
How I combine audio review with questions, active recall, and residency study.
How does the ABIM blueprint shape this listening list?
The specialty order and displayed exam weights follow the ABIM Internal Medicine Certification Examination Blueprint. They help prioritize review, but episode counts are not a measure of exam coverage. This evolving list has gaps, and the certification percentages do not describe the separate Internal Medicine ITE.
What are the best podcasts for ABIM board review?
There is no single best ABIM podcast for every resident. This list curates individual episodes and videos from several educators, then organizes them around ABIM blueprint domains so you can choose the clearest resource for the topic you need to review.
Can I study for ABIM using podcasts?
Podcasts can make commutes, workouts, and chores useful review time, but listening should supplement question banks, active recall, and a comprehensive board-review resource. Use an episode to build the framework, then apply it with questions and reinforce it with Anki cards.
What are the best podcasts for the Internal Medicine ITE?
Many ABIM-oriented podcasts cover the same core internal medicine domains tested during residency. Rather than naming one show, this list selects episodes across multiple sources and groups them into cardiology, pulmonary medicine, infectious disease, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and other ITE-relevant specialties.
Are ABIM board review resources useful for the Internal Medicine ITE?
Yes. The Internal Medicine In-Training Examination and ABIM certification exam overlap substantially in general internal medicine knowledge, although they are not identical exams. ABIM resources can help residents review core topics throughout training and later reuse the same foundation for board preparation.
How should I use this listening list for the Internal Medicine ITE?
Start with weaker specialties from your prior ITE score report or topics that remain difficult on rounds. Listen to the matching section, then complete questions and use active recall for the same subject instead of relying on passive listening alone.
How should I use podcasts with Anki or question banks for ABIM?
Listen to one focused episode, answer the matching practice questions, and then download or review the corresponding Anki cards. Quizzes and decks appear beneath the episode when available, and more are added periodically. The sequence is listen, questions, Anki, and revisit.
Is this an official ABIM study guide?
No. This is an independent, resident-created educational resource from Mendel Jacobs, MD. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
